My Semester Project Updated Status

My semester project will be about portrayal of women in pop music in contemporary society, especially in the United States as well as other countries known for it including South Korea and Japan. I would like to go into why portraying women by oversexualization or objectification is very prevalent, exploited, and typical to the public today, and why it is an existing part of modern culture. The project will delve into this topic through the male gaze viewpoint, as discussed in the beginning of the class. My project will focus more on artists spanning from the 1990s to present day such as Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande, as the way that these pop music artists are seen sexually when they are in a music video or concert.

An issue with the project I decided to research is finding a way to connect it with my major computer science. One way that I could connect my project with my major is considering to include the topic of the voice synthesizer used in pop music. The voice synthesizer had grew into popularity in pop music since the early 2000s. It is known for changing the voice into low-pitched or high-pitched, in which the latter had been marketed throughout the past 15 years. I am currently researching this topic.

The means of making my project would start off as an essay or research paper in order to organize the information gathered. If I want to explain the pop music and the voice synthesizer more effectively, I would put the research into either a video or a blog, but the problem is to know how.

  1. I really like your idea. I never thought about using non painters for this project. Your semester project is giving me a lot of ideas about how I can use non-painters in mine.

You could consider speaking about the approach different women such as Amber Rose and Kim K are taking to show their views on the idea of women being proud to show off their bodies and getting rid of the "sexualized" idea of it. This link provides some info about it.
