Louise Bourgeois is a French born American artist who's art intrigued many, especially women. She was a sculptor, painter, and did print work. Bourgeois was part of the feminist art movement and helped paved the way for women artist in today's world. Bourgeois' art depicts the psychological events from her upbringing which is most focused on her father's infidelity. Her art was very explicit and aggressive, in a witty kind of way. The themes repeated in her artwork is a person's need for protection and nurture.

Bourgeois generally focused her art on the pain and fear she dealt with psychologically. The pain and fear from the unconscious creates the beauty in her art. Bourgeois stated, "the existence of pain cannot be denied. I propose no remedies or excuses." One of Bourgeois most famous artwork is the Fillette, meaning little girl. She distorted the male and females anatomy, creating a bizarre figure. Bourgeois broke many barriers and raised awareness for women. Bourgeois died at age 98 in New York.
