Cynthia Morris Sherman born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey is an American contemporary artist, photographer and film director.She is most known and recognized for her conceptual portraits that raise questions about the role of females in today's society. Cynthia Sherman broke records all over the globe in the 1980's when her series of 69 black and white photographs, called ‘Untitled Film Stills’ recieved international recognition. Stated in a article by Matt Randal on widewalls.com he indicates "Sherman’s provocative work greatly hints plenty influences of feminism, performance art, as well as cultural criticism, and the body and identity politics". She began painting in Buffalo State College,she often works in series taking pictures of herself in different costumes.She also shoots alone in her personal studio playing different roles. She also jumped into the fashion scene in which some of her work appeared Interview magazine.
