Modern Art or Modernism is a name given to many styles and movements within art in the 19th century all the way up till the 1960's. Many associated styles would consist of Impressionism, Bauhaus, Surrealism, Futurism, Cubism, as well as Pop and Op Art. Modernism grew from the impressionist rejection of the "imitation of life". Many political and social agendas play a huge role in the creation of it. In the 1970's and beyond many artists reacted to it and post-modernism was created. It can also be traced all the way back to the Industrial Revolution which lasted between the 18th and 19th century. In this era, rapid changes in transportation, manufacturing, technology was in stock. The basis of it is that Modern Art must depict the world very expressively. In the 1830's this creation was introduced to amplify the style of art and reinterpret them as well. Modern Art also displays the loss of art's audience. Women focused a lot on a certain type of art to express emotions within art focused on the post war mood. Post War events play a huge role in applying new techniques of design.

The significance of this painting expresses the finest example of Modern Art, the series of nudes are put into a variety of sections to portray how some subjects may be in a still life. His concern would be put into the way each figure is displayed.
The significance behind this painting is the loose handling and his focus on the lighting of the scene is a perfect example of Modern Impressionism. They as well use abstract concepts to give the viewer a clue of what was sensed or felt while painting.
